Naming Committee to Meet – Thursday, November 1st

Naming Committee:  The Naming Committee for the School Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m. in Room 304 at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street.  The agenda includes the following:

  • Review Committee’s recommendation regarding naming of the building located at 225 Nevada Street (Carr School)
  • Discuss proposed outline for a final report to the School Committee
  • Discuss additional suggestions or proposals for the School Committee regarding
    • Ways to honor/recognize people whose names were on school
      buildings once the school ceases to exist
    • Ways to catalog and honor the city’s built and changing school
      building environment and the changing school grade structure
    • Observations regarding the diversity (or lack thereof) of names on
      school buildings

 

School Committee to Meet on Monday, October 22nd

The Newton School Committee will meet on Monday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in Room 304 in Executive Session to discuss strategy in preparation for Collective Bargaining with the Newton Teacher’s Association and discuss strategy with respect to litigation of Civil Matter #18-2283 Koplan Vs. Newton School Committee and DLR Docket No.:MUP-18-6983, Newton Teachers Association v. Newton School Committee.

The School Committee will then meet at 7:00 p.m. in Room 210. The agenda includes the following:

Newton School Committee-Executive Session

The Newton School Committee will meet in Executive Session on Monday, October 15th at 6:00 p.m. in Room 304.  The agenda includes the following:

  • Discuss strategy in preparation for Collective Bargaining with the Newton Teacher’s Association
  • Discuss complaints or charges brought against a public officer, employee, staff member, or individual:
    • Open Meeting Law Violation Complaint filed by State Representative Steve Howitt
    • Petition filed and certified on 9/17/18
  • Discuss strategy with respect to litigation
    • Civil Matter:  r #18-2283, Koplan vs. Newton School Committee
    • Petition filed and certified on 9/17/18

 

Two Newton SEPAC Meetings

Newton SEPAC:  The Newton SEPAC will meet on Tuesday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 217 at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street.  The agenda can be found here.

Newton SEPAC Presentation:  The Newton SEPAC will hold a presentation on Anti-bullying on Thursday, October 18th at 7:15 p.m. in Room 210 at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street. The Notice of Meeting can be found here.

 

Newton School Committee to Meet on Monday, October 1st

The Newton School Committee will meet TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. in Executive Session in Room 304 to discuss the following:

  • Conduct strategy with respect to collective bargaining negotiations with the Newton Teacher’s Association; to discuss the reputation, character, physical condition or mental health, rather than professional competence, of an individual, or to discuss the discipline or dismissal of, or complaints or charges brought against a public officer, employee or staff member;
  • Discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation if an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the public body;
  • Review and vote to release certain Executive Committee meeting minutes (see agenda)

The School Committee will then reconvene in regular session at 7:00 p.m. in Room 210. The agenda includes the following:

School Committee Meeting – Monday, September 17th – 6:00 p.m. – Executive Session then 7:00 p.m. Regular Open Session Meeting

The School Committee will meet in Executive Session on Monday, September 17th at 6:00 in Room 304 at the Ed Center to discuss collective bargaining strategy with the NTA (Newton Teachers Association) and an update on the Middlesex Superior Court Civil Action case:  Koplan et al. v. Following Executive Session, the School Committee will convene in Open Session at 7:00 p.m. in Room 210 at the Ed Center. The agenda includes the following:

Newton School Committee to meet on Tuesday, September 4th – Executive Session on Collective Bargaining with the Newton Teachers Association and vote on Agreements with the Custodian’s Association and the Secretaries Association

The Newton School Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 4th.

First, they will meet in Executive Session at 5:30 p.m. in Room 304 at the Ed Center to discuss collective bargaining strategy with regard to the NTA and the NESA and will also be given an update on the Koplan et al v. Newton School Committee case and special education litigation. (See Meeting Notice)

The Committee will then reconvene in Open Session at 7:00 p.m. in Room 210 at the Ed Center. The agenda includes discussion and vote on a MOA with the Newton Public Schools Custodian’s Association, discussion and vote on an MOA with the Newton Educational Secretaries Association, discussion of 2018-2019 Systemwide Goals and Superintendent Goals, discussion and vote on the School Committee Calendar and agenda items, discussion and vote on Fusion Academy, discussion and vote on policy updates for JFABE(military children), JFABF(foster care children) and JRA(school records).
