  • Monday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street in Room 210 to review the proposed FY2020 Instructional Budget – Instructional Areas – Elementary, Secondary and Teaching and Learning – see Meeting Notice/Agenda
  • Thursday, March 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street in Room 210 to review the proposed FY2020 Instructional Budget – Non-Instructional Areas – Student Services and Special Education – see Meeting Notice/Agenda

There will be no public comments taken at these meetings.

SEPAC to Meet on Tuesday, March 12th

SEPAC will meet on Tuesday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. in Room 210 at the Ed Center, 100 Walnut Street. There will be a presentation by Dr. Kerim Munir, MD, MPH, DSc, Director of Psychiatry at the University Center of Excellence in Development Disabilities at Boston Children’s Hospital on:  Mental Health in Children and Adolescents with Developmental Disabilities.  The Notice can be found here.

Newton School Committee to Meet on Monday, February 10th

The School Committee will meet on Monday, February 11th beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Room 210 and will go into Executive Session and move to Room 304 to discuss strategy in preparation for Collective Bargaining with the Newton Teachers Association. The School Committee will then reconvene in open session at 7:00 p.m. in Room 210. The agenda includes the following:

School Committee to Meet on Monday, January 14th

The Newton School Committee will meet on Monday, January 14th first, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 210 with a vote to move into Executive Session in Room 304 to discuss strategy in preparation for Collective Bargaining with the Newton Teacher’s Association. Following the Executive Session, the Committee will convene in Room 210 for Open Session. The agenda includes the following:

School Committee to Hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, November 27th

The Newton School Committee will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, November 27th at 630 p.m. at the Seashole Auditorium, Newton South High School, 140 Brandeis Road on a Citizens Petition filed requesting the following actions:

  • Adopt a policy of total transparency regarding curriculum concerning history, social studies, geography,
    and any and all topics related to the conflicts in the Middle East and to world religions.
  • Allow the public immediate and continual access to all teaching materials used and discussed in these areas including, but not limited to text books, hand-outs, assignments, films, power-point presentations, speakers, internet resources, and workshops
  • Vet all teaching materials and approaches concerning the above topics using a panel of scholars, historians and educators
  • Immediately cease all teaching on these topics until such time as properly vetted, unbiased materials can be identified
  • Contact students by official mail to explain how some of the materials they were taught qualify as biased and propaganda and were not explained as such to the students, and apologize for these errors
  • Convene an all-school seminar on “the new anti-Semitism” which makes of the Jewish state, “the Jew among the nations” with special workshops for teachers and students. The new anti-Semitism has been widely studied and consists at base of the treatment of Israel in ways no other nation state is treated
  • Terminate Superintendent David Fleishman
