City Board and Commission Meetings – Week of November 24th

Planning and Development Board: The Planning and Development Board will meet on Monday, November 25th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 204. The agenda includes the following:

  • Convene as Board of Survey
    • Request for a Certificate of Action – 56 Farwell
    • Adjourn of Board of Survey
  • 15-21 Lexington Street – Zoning Request
    • Close Public Hearing
    • Discussion/Vote

The Planning and Development Board will then join the Zoning and Planning Committee at 8:00 p.m. in Room 205 for the public hearings, discussion and possible vote on the following:

  • Request to repeal Section 3.4.4 Garages of the Newton Zoning Ordinance effective December 31, 2019. Garages are expected to be addressed during Zoning Redesign next term – see Planning Memo
  • Request discuss and adopt amendments to the Zoning Ordinance to create exemptions to building envelope standards to facilitate implementation of energy efficiency and alternative energy measures in buildings – see Planning Memo (same as below)
  • Request to discuss and adopt amendments to the Zoning Ordinances to create a new set of standards related to sustainable development design with requirements for new buildings and development projects to include environmental and energy efficiency features – See Planning Memo (same as above)

Council on Aging and Advisory Board: The Council on Aging and Advisory Board will meet on Tuesday, November 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the Newton Senior Center. The agenda includes the following:

  • Call to Order, Welcome, and Approval of Minutes
  • NewCAL Update/Discussion
  • COA Goals for FY2020
  • General Updates

Zoning Board of Appeals: The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Tuesday, November 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The agenda includes the following:

  • Three public hearings:
    • Request for a variance from the rear yard setback requirement – to construct an addition resulting in a rear yard setback of 7.5 feet where 15 feet is required in accordance with section 3.1.3 of the Newton Zoning Ordinance. The property consists of a 4,254 sq. ft. corner lot with a single-family residence constructed in 1937 and a detached garage located in a Single Residence 3 Zoning District at 74 Falmouth Road
    • Request for a variance from the new lot dimensional requirements sections 7.8.4.D.4 and 3.1.3 of the Newton Zoning Ordinance to waive the new (postDecember 7, 1953). The request is to waive the lot size, frontage, front and side setback, maximum lot coverage and minimum open space. The property consists of a 10,411 sq. ft. lot with a single-family residence constructed in 1910 and is located in a Single-Residence 2 Zoning District at 34 Morton Road
    • Request to change the details of a Comprehensive Permit previously granted and amended for a project consisting of 8 affordable housing units. The request is to determine whether the proposal to reduce the number of required parking spaces from 11 – 10 is substantial or insubstantial at 236 Auburn Street.
