City Council Meetings – Week of December 2nd

Land Use Committee:  The Land Use Committee will meet on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The agenda includes the following:

  • Recommendation from the Community Preservation Committee to appropriate $3,200,000 from the Community Preservation Fund to the Planning and Development Department for a grant to the Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly to create 60 units of permanently affordable, deed restricted housing for seniors and chronically homeless individuals with disabilities at 160 Stanton Avenue
  • Two requests for Class D Auto Dealer licenses:
    • Newton Auto Group – 1235 Washington Street
    • City of Newton – 1000 Commonwealth Avenue

Charter Subcommittee:  The Charter Subcommittee will meet on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 205. Programs and Services Committee:  The Programs and Services Committee will NOT meet on Wednesday, December 5th. The Notice of Cancellation can be found here.

Public Safety and Transportation Committee:  The Public Safety and Transportation will meet on Wednesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 205. The agenda includes the following:

  • Two requests to renew public auto licenses:
    • Don’s Car Service
    • Mahase Livery Service, LLC
  • One request to renew a bus license – Lasell College
  • Four requests to renew taxi licenses:
    • 38 taxi licenses for Veteran’s Taxi
    • 1 taxi license for Holden’s Taxi
    • 2 taxi licenses for Newtonville Cab Company
    • 3 taxi licenses for Newton Taxi Company
  • Request to amend the resident sticker and visitor parking permit expiration dates from December 31 each year to July 1 – June 30th each year
  • Request to transfer $95,844.51 from the Fire Pumper Replacement Account to various Fire Department Accounts
  • Request to shorten the duration of the Winter Parking Ban to being on December 15th and end on April 1st instead of beginning on November 15th and ending on April 15th
  • Request to end the winter parking ban on select streets in Wards 2 and 3

Public Facilities Committee:  The Public Facilities Committee will meet on Wednesday, December 5th at 6:40 p.m. in Room 204. The agenda includes the following:

  • Update on the Status of the Phase 3 Solar Projects
  • Update on the Status of the Climate Action Plan
  • Request for a Resolution from the City Council to commit the City to reach Zero Carbon Pollution by 2050

Committee of the Whole:  The City Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole on Thursday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Drucker Auditorium at the Newton Free Library to hear an overview by the Planning and Development Department on Zoning Redesign and an update on the Washington Street Corridor Visioning Plan.
