City Council Committee Meetings Week of November 4th

Programs and Services Committee:  The Programs and Services Committee will not meet on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 205. Please see the cancellation notice here.  The agenda for the rescheduled meeting on November 5th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 205 will include the following:

  • Appointments to the Youth Commission:
    • Brianna Spiegel, Madison Branigan, Veer Sawhney, Christina Bednarzh, Coral Lin, and Reethika Digumarthy
  • Appointment to the Human Rights Commission:
    • Rabbi Eric Gurvis

Public Facilities Committee:  The Public Facilities Committee will meet on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 204. The agenda includes the following:

  • Update on Complete Streets Program (Note:  The Committee will meet jointly with the Public Safety and Transportation Committee)
  • Submittal of the FY2020 – 2024 Capital Improvement Plan
  • Update from the Director of Sustainability and the Administration on Newton Power Choice
  • Request for a grant of an underground easement to Mark Development, LLC in Washington Street for underground footings
  • Request to accept a sidewalk easement from Mark Development, LLC abutting Walnut Street
  • Request to appropriate $500,000 from bonded indebtedness to fund the design, procurement and construction of interior improvements at the Newton Free Library
  • Request to appropriate $150,000 from Free Cash to fund the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School window replacement and accessibility improvements design
  • Request to appropriate $300,000 from Free Cash to fund upgrades to Fire Stations 1 and 2 including isolation of apparatus bay from living quarters and pole rehab/replacement

 

Public Safety and Transportation Committee:  The Public Safety and Transportation Committee will meet on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 205 (?). The agenda includes the following:

  • Update on Complete Streets Program (Note:  The Committee will meet jointly with the Public Facilities Committee)
  • Request for an ordinance amendment to increase the non-resident parking permit fee from $25 to a range which will include a maximum cap, to better cover costs and encourage alternatives to driving in parts of the City where demand is high
  • Discussion on implementing differential priced parking in Newton
  • Proposal to end winter parking ban on certain streets in Wards 2 and 3

Land Use Committee:  The Land Use Committee will meet on Thursday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The agenda includes the following:

  • Request to amend a previously granted Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to allow off-site relocation of the inclusionary zoning units as well as 24 additional units at 219 Commonwealth Avenue
  • Request for a Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to locate a veterinary hospital in an exiting Newton Nexus building at 131 – 181 Needham Street
  • Request for a Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct a two-story detached garage, greater than 700 sq. ft. containing accommodations for 10 vehicles at 244 Dudley Road
  • Request for a Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct a 161 sq. ft. second floor addition in the existing footprint of a house exceeding the maximum allowable FAR at 43 Kenwood Road
  • Request for a Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct an attached dwelling unit to the exiting single-family structure and reduce other requirements and amend Variance #99442 at 10 Pillion Court
