News and Notable – Food Trucks and Dockless Bikes

Food Trucks at Wells Avenue:  Food Trucks will be at Wells Avenue beginning on Monday, July 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. located between 2 and 60 Wells Avenue. There will be a rotation of 6 food trucks Monday through Friday offering a variety of American, Indian, Korean, Chinese and Mediterranean complimenting Goldberg’s Delis and cafeteria already located at 85 Wells Avenue.  For more information, please go to:  www.newtonma.gov/economicdevelopment/foodtrucks.

Dockless Bikes:  Mayor Fuller recently announced that dockless bikes are now available.  Lime Bikes can be seen across the city (Note:  Contract awaiting final signatures before official launch).  You can download the free Lime app from the app store on your smartphone and add a few dollars for your first ride – it’s $1 per half hour, or $29.95 a month for unlimited use.  When you tap the Ride icon on your phone, you can find where a bike is located.

Another bike company, Spin, will be adding bikes in August. Both companies will offer discounts to students, corporations, and low-income riders.
Farmer’s Market:  Be sure to visit the Farmer’s Market which is open on Tuesdays at Cold Spring Park (1:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.) and Saturdays (9:30 a.m.- 12:30p.m.)
Auburndale Community Library:  The ACL will host “Dancing in the Parks” outdoor concert on Wednesday, July 25th at 6:30 p.m.  sponsored by The Village Bank and Newton Pride.
The band will play R&B, New Orleans, Swing, Blues, Boogie Woodie, Ska, and Country.  With songs from Stevie Wonder, Santana, Robert Cray, Louis Jordan, Etta James, James Brown, Ray Charles, and more.
Summer in the Hyde:  The Hyde Community Center and the Newton Highlands Area Council will continue:
  • July 27 6:00 p.m. Concert: Black Velvet Band (Irish) Dusk Movie: Back to the Future 2
  • July 29 7:00p.m.   Shakespeare in the Park (Commonwealth Shakespeare)

Sunday Concerts on the Green:  Sunday concerts on the Newton Center Green began last night but there are still 3 more in this series.

  • July 29th – Lost Sugar Kings

Concerts begin at 6:30 and end at 8:00 p.m.  Be sure to stop at local businesses while you are in Newton Center!
